How to Contact us

If you have questions, comments, suggestions, criticisms....
Then this is the place!

You may contact us by any of the means listed below, but...
Here are a few guidelines!

1) The best way to insure a fast response, addressed to your individual needs, please use our "Register" page to submit your information and questions.
2) If you wish to send us any additional information electronically, as an E-mail attachment, you must send your information to our special mailbox which is only for receiving attachments. Attachments sent to any other mailboxes may not be opened! Click here to send E-mail with attachments. It is also good protocol to either phone or send a separate E-mail to notify us that a file with an attachment is coming through.
3) All E-mail's which are sent to us are limited to 2 Megabytes in size, with or without attachments. Please check the file size of any thing you are trying to send to us! JPEG's and Word Document files, quite often, are too large to E-mail!
4) While we feel our current communication systems are the best they have ever been, no system (or person) is infallible! If you do not hear back from us, please try again! As we, and the Internet community as a whole, battle the deluge of Spam, sometimes the wrong things get "filtered" out. Also, machines, computers, Windows, etc. are not perfect (to really screw up it takes a computer...) and neither are we. There are many ways to reach us listed below. Do not hesitate to call us and ask "Hey, what happened to..."

This is important, as we spend a lot of our time in the field. If we are unavailable, or out of mobile coverage, you call will go to our Voice Mail system. If this happens, and you do not leave a message, we will never know you called!

Our location:

We are located in rural Northeastern Pennsylvania, USA. Since 1989 our location has been in the farm country of the beautiful Endless Mountain Region of Pennsylvania. If you were to draw a line north from Wilkes-Barre, and one west from Scranton, where these meet would be close to our farm.

We welcome visitors wishing to discuss their project, or just their dreams. Due to our work and travel schedules, not to mention our rural location, appointments are an absolute necessity. Do not let our distance from you hinder your contacting us. While our active market areas are in the states of Pennsylvania, New Jersey & New York, we will provide our services anywhere. You may find that we can handle quite a bit of preliminary planning from a distance. When it is necessary to get together we can meet you here or at your location.

On Pricing & Quotations:

Due to the custom nature of our services we cannot offer ballpark estimates. We have no “baseline” or standard product to give you figures on. Each of our projects is unique, as are the services we provide. We do not use Square Foot estimates. We make cost figures using realistic estimates and based on your individual requirements.

Be careful as some companies will quote your project without complete numbers. Many tend to quote a Timber Frame without shipping, crane service, travel expenses for the raising crew and sometimes even the cost of the raising crew! Many seem to think that the Square Foot measure of a structure includes porches, breezeways, decks, unfinished areas, unconditioned spaces and garages! Often we see quotes for SIP enclosure without provisions for the electric wiring or temporary covering for the roof. We have even seen where the panels are installed without the window openings cut and framed!

When you receive a Estimate from Architectural Timberworks, it is a detailed description of the services provided with firm pricing. No vague numbers, no extras.

As we customize our services, quoting your project can be most accurate after we have had a preliminary meeting. If distance or scheduling prohibits our getting together, and you already have at least a preliminary design, you can forward any information you have to us and we will work up pricing for you. Please use our Questionnaire to register with our web site and to send your Estimate request, so that we may obtain enough information to properly address your inquiry. By registering, and signing up for our mailing list, we will be able to keep you current with our "goings on". Your privacy is always respected and you may opt-out at any time.

If you, as many of our prospective Clients do, insist on some vague idea of "how much does a Timber Frame home cost?", we can offer the following. The national average completed cost for a custom single family residence, for the 2003 year, exceeded $112 per square foot of living space. Timber Frame homes, contractor built, average about 15-20% more. For our current schedule, our homes, contractor built seem to be starting at about $130-$140 per square foot of living space. Living space is exactly this, finished, conditioned living space. Unfinished areas, porches, decks, breezeways, garages, land, land improvements, landscaping, appliances, lighting fixtures, etc. are not included, and will add to your costs. We feel offering this "rule of thumb" may be a disservice to you, as it does not take into account your personal choices. However, as so many of you ask...

A special note to Designers:

When we are contacted by any Designer who is working for our Prospective Client, we will be pleased to provide a initial design review and offer some verbal feedback. Any further preliminary design, consultations or Estimates will only be offered under our standard Consultation Agreement. We will not be able to provide any design assistance, advice, sketches, drawings, engineering review or written/electronic feedback without a properly executed Agreement.

A special note to Owner/Designers:

We get many requests for “bids” on a project. It is very rare for us to submit pricing on these “bids”. The term bid can only be used when the design and specifications for a project have already been determined AND put on paper. Only then can you accurately request bids from suppliers. This ensures that each supplier is bidding the exact same project, materials and methods. Unfortunately, this precludes us from suggesting alternate methods which may improve the final results or save the property owner money. We ask that you contact us early in your project planning so that we may guide you on integrating our systems. Only when we have had previous contact on the project, or when enough information is provided to us, will we price these bid requests. We will always provide a Estimate on any project. Please remember that our quoted standards will not be the standards of another company. There is nothing even approaching a standard of material and finishes in our industry. Please review our site to further understand the options we offer. Until you speak to, and visit every company you are requesting pricing from it is impossible to compare “apples to apples”.
