These are the same flashing membranes we use here at Timberworks Housewrights to seal our window and door installations!
According to statistics from the window industry, the biggest factor in failures of windows & doors, tends to be faulty installations. In particular, sealing each installation against water penetration. Many manufacturers are issuing new and stringent installation procedures that must be following, or you run the risk of water penetration and warranty coverage refusal. The problem is getting so pervasive that it probably will not be long before all installations will be required to be performed by Certified Installers.
Do The Job Right!
At Timberworks we adhere to the AAMA guidelines for installing & sealing all our window & door units. We can offer advice on your own installations for now and, once we obtain our certification, we will be able to instruct you or your crew on the AAMA standards. The flashing we use is a self-adhesive membrane that far outperforms the typical staple-up products. The membrane will seal around any fasteners that are put through it. Although it is self-adhesive, in cold weather warming the membrane or using a heat gun will work wonders.
