Battery Recycling
At Timberworks Housewrights, we can not look at on-site power generation without looking at the impact of using lead-acid batteries for backup & storage. Batteries used in these systems have a finite life so we need to look at the environmental concerns of manufacturing and the eventual disposal process.
To this end, and through our affiliation with East Penn Manufacturing, we are able to offer a recycling program that utilzes 100% of the components of lead-acid batteries! There is no cost to you, all we ask is that you deliver your batteries to our warehouse just outside of Dallas, PA, and we do the rest.

How It Works
Now, there are a couple of stipulations. We will accept any lead-acid battery, as long as it is intact and not leaking. Just get in touch with us to arrange a drop off. We can not have you just dropping off your batteries. We need to be able know where it came from and we need to store them correctly. That's it! Let us clear that space in your garage and keep these old units from leaking into the environment.
A lead-acid battery is your everyday car, truck or yard equipment battery. You may also find them in generators and trailer brake systems. These units should never be placed in the trash or dumped outside as they contain lead, sulfuric acid and the cases are recycleable plastic. The lead can be re-claimed for re-use, the acid fumes are used to make fertilizers, the sulfuric acid is re-used and the plastics re-molded into a wide range of products.
Timberworks also has a recycling program in place to help you to recycle your rechargeable batteries and cell phones!
In May 1996, Congress enacted Federal legislation known as the Mercury-Containing and Rechargeable Battery Management Act. This Act streamlines state regulatory requirements for collecting Ni-Cd batteries and encourages voluntary industry programs to recycle them.
The units we can accept under this program must be imprinted with the following designations:
Nickel Cadmium (Ni-Cd)
Nickel Metal Hydride (Ni-MH)
Nickel Zinc (Ni-Zn)
Lithium Ion (Li-ion)
Small Sealed Lead (Pb) weighing less than 2 lbs.
ANY used cell phone, with or without battery. Your phone must be de-activated before drop-off, and you may want to investigate clearing all your personal information from the chip.
For the most part, what this means is that, if the battery is rechargeable, we can recycle it! Whether it is your cell phone, power tool, camera, PDA or any electronic device that uses rechargeable batteries, we can help you to keep the environment safe by properly recycling these batteries.
Your standard alkaline, lithium or non-rechargeable batteries are not accepted for recycling. Please contact your county recycling offices to learn about proper disposal of these types.
As above, we only require that you contact us to set up a drop off time and that you bring these to our warehouse near Dallas, PA. We need to store these properly to eliminate dangers so we can not have you just drop them off without our attending to them.
Please call Timberworks toll free today at (866) 203-3136 to set up a time to recycle your batteries and old cell phones! |
